Get Quality Backlinks

High quality backlinks will help to increase your Google page rank. Don’t go around dumping your links all over the web. Blog on related blogs leaving quality comments. Get links from other high page rank sites. Bookmark your site at one or two high page ranking sites.

You want high quality backlinks. Poor quality backlinks may have a negative affect on your sites page rank. Check out the site before you link from it. There is a browser plugin that you can get that will show you the page rank of the site you are on. Find it, use it.

Provide a RSS Feed

Providing a RSS Feed for your visitors allows them the chance to sign up to receive your RSS feed. This can lead to additional backlinks to your site as others will link to your RSS feed as well.

Write Quality Information

Write good quality information for your readers. Do not use duplicate content on your blog page. Although there is no crazy horrible punishment for this, Google will not see your site as high quality thus lowering your page rank and putting you further back in the search results.

Writing quality information will keep your readers around longer. Google keeps track of how long a visitor spends on your site. If you are keeping your visitors attention then Google believes that your site must have good information.

How to improve your Google PageRank

By far the most common question webmasters have in relation to Google is: how do I improve [or increase] my PageRank? Before answering this question, it is important to take into consideration what PageRank is, how it is calculated, and what it means for your site.

Google PageRank, based on a scale of 0 to 10, is the means by which Google ranks the worth of particular site. Theoretically, a site with a PageRank of 8 is generally of more use to the average visitor than a site with a PageRank of 3. Accordingly, sites with higher PageRanks rank higher in the Google search results for a given keyword than those with lower PageRanks. The goal is to provide the user with the highest quality sites for a particular keyword first.

PageRank is calculated based almost entirely upon two factors: how many other sites link to your site, and the PageRank of those sites that link to you. Thus, ideally you want a lot of sites with high PageRanks to link to your site. Getting many low or no PageRank sites to link to your site won't do you much good – in fact, there is some evidence that Google penalizes sites that have an abnormally high number of low PageRank sites linking to them. This situation is usually indicative of someone trying to cheat the system by simply adding links to useless pages in so-called "link farms." So, in a sense, Google is capable of recognizing whether your site hangs out with a good crowd or a bad crowd by what kind of sites link to yours. It is much better to get a few sites with a high PageRank to link to yours (especially those with PageRanks higher than your own) than a bunch of sites with low or 0 PageRank.

PageRank is crucially important because it determines, in part, in what order your website will show up in Google's results. Besides PageRank, the other factor is largely website content – i.e. what your site actually contains, what keywords are present in your text and how often they appear. If two sites have basically the same content, cover the same topic, and have the same keyword saturation (the percentage of keywords in the entire text), then the one with the higher PageRank will almost always come out on top.

Okay, now for ways to improve your PageRank, legally and fairly:

Built good websites. If you construct a website that is useful to your visitors and has something original to contribute, other webmasters will recognize this and want to link to your site. Some of the best websites out there that are meaningful with lots of useful and original content also have thousands upon thousands of good inbound links. No one wants to link to a site that is poorly constructed, or fails to offer any original or useful information/ service. Simply put, the better your site is, the more links you will get, the more visitors will visit your site, and the higher the PageRank you will receive (which will, in turn, bring you more visitors, and the cycle continues).

Actively seek out healthy link partnerships. It usually isn't enough simply to build a good site and wait around for someone to notice. Contacting webmasters with similar websites in an attempt to exchange links is a good idea – if you do it right.

When looking to exchanging web links, you'll want to partner your site with other high-quality sites, preferably with those with PageRanks equal or greater than your own. Since Google calculates PageRank based upon the PageRank of sites linking to yours, this is of significant consequence to your site. And, of course, if your site is truly useful and professional, you are sure to get at least some webmasters to agree to link to your site. You can't expect 100% success, and sending out individual link requests can be a bit of a chore. However, we believe that it is indeed a worthwhile endeavor for those serious about improving their PageRank. Stay clear of "link farms," fake SEO gimmicks, and low-ranking websites. If you pay some company to submit your site to 100,000 FFA pages, don't expect to get your money's worth. Getting a link to your site on thousands of low quality, low-ranking websites can actually decrease your PageRank, and overall standing with Google. Google's ranking mechanism will be able to detect that your site is listed on so many of these undesirable pages. In many cases, this is seen as an attempt to inflate your PageRank unfairly, and sites may be penalized as a result.

Likewise, refrain from using such illegal practices as "cloaking" in order to artificially inflate your PageRank. Google defines cloaking as "[a term] used to describe a website that returns altered webpages to search engines crawling the site. In other words, the webserver is programmed to return different content to Google than it returns to regular users, usually in an attempt to distort search engine rankings. This can mislead users about what they'll find when they click on a search result." Using cloaking or other illegal tricks can – and almost certainly will – result in the penalization of your site, or removal from the Google index altogether.

We realize that these suggestions and strategies offer no silver bullet to increasing your Google PageRank. However, they are time-tested methods of truly increasing your PageRank over time. If you are committed to the task, and have created a useful website, there is no reason why you cannot significantly raise the PageRank of your site.

Google Page Rank : What You Need to Know

Now that you’ve got your new website up and running, it’s time to start building your Google Page Rank, or "PR". Page rank is the value that Google gives your site, measured by how many quality links are pointing back to your site, or how popular your site is. The more links you have pointing back to your site, namely quality links from sites with a higher PR, the higher your site will be ranked in Google’s search engine. The rank is on a scale of 0-10 - ten being the highest rank of course! It takes time to get a PR higher than zero when first starting out. This is partly because once you submit your URL to Google and other search engines, it may take weeks or even months before it is indexed. It may also be partly due to the fact that you just need to build good content for your site, and have your links on other people’s websites all over the web. Even if you have a PR of 1-5, you are doing well, even though it may not sound like it. The challenge is for webmasters to increase their PR as much and as quickly as possible, but how?

First of all, there are some tools you can use to check your PR, namely the Google Page Rank Toolbar, which can be downloaded for free from the Google site, and is installed onto your browser. This allows you to check your own site’s PR, as well as those of other sites you visit, which will give you a good clue as to which sites you should be linking to. Linking to sites with a higher PR will increase your site’s PR. It’s a good idea to do a Google search for keywords related to your site’s content, and choose sites to link to whose PR you know in advance. You can send an email to that webmaster asking to exchange links. Not all of them will accept, but the few that do could increase your PR very quickly just by linking to your site!

Next, it’s important to do some serious keyword research using a keyword search tool, one of the most popular being Overture’s keyword search tool. With this tool, or other similar tools, you would type in search terms, such as "make money online". Since this is a very broad search term, it is going to be highly competitive and will generate a high number of results for number of times that term has been searched. When optimizing your site, you want to avoid these highly competitive terms and use keywords that generate fewer results, by coming up with a keyword that is searched less, but still popular.

There are a few tricks to getting ranked higher with regards to keywords, such as changing some of your source code keywords. For example, you can change the title tag of your site to match the optimized keywords you want to use. You can also look at the source code of other people’s sites by clicking View/Source in your browser while visiting their site to see how optimized their site is and which tags and images they use or don’t use. It is helpful to highlight, bold, or italicize your website keywords to get a higher rank, especially if your competition is not doing that. If you check what your competition is doing, and do what the higher ranked sites are doing, you may be able to outrank them!


What is Page Rank and How Does It Work?

As 2006 faced its last weeks, Google was the favorite among search engine. Most of Google's popularity is credited to its preferred form of search engine optimization, a trademarked program Google dubbed Google PageRank.

PageRank defined

According to www.pro-seo.com/glossary.html, Check PageRank aka PR is one of the methods Google uses to determine the relevance or importance of a Web page. PageRank is a vote, by all the other Web pages on the Internet, about how important a Web page is. A link to a Web page counts as a vote of support. If there are no incoming links to a Web page then there is no support.

Google explains it just about the same. Each link is considered to be a vote; however, Google does not consider all votes to be equal. It considers some votes to be more important or valuable than others.

PageRank explained

Google Pagerank Search Engines operates under a democratic nature by determining web relevance with links which are considered votes. Each vote counts, but not all the votes are counted the same. During its analyses Google looks at more than just the volume of votes a webpage receives, it also takes into account the page that cast the vote.

"Important" sites help to make other sites "important." In other words if a high ranking site offers the link then Google counts this vote more heavily. Thus a link for a site in the top ten can help your website, while a link from a site that is low in rank, or doesn’t relate to your site, does very little to improve your search engine ranking.

Google has designed Google PageRank to be an eight-unit measurement. It displays the value PageRank places on each website directly beside each website it displays.

Why does the page matter as opposed to the volume? Due to spamdexing Google had to make its analysis stricter. People were swapping links with one another in mass quantities, or buying them from other websites. To combat this Google made the quality of the link outweigh the actual quantity. In 2005, it designed and activated a program called nofollow, a program they designed to allow webmasters and bloggers to create links that PageRank would ingnore. The same system was also used to keep spamdexing to a minumum.

Content analysis

Anyone who surfs the net knows that "important" pages mean nothing if the do not suit your needs. This is why in addition with PageRank, Google uses sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are relevant to your query.

Many SEOs are fixated with search engine ranking and this is understandable as it is one of the best ways to gain traffic, but while they are out there trying to get links from high PageRanking pages, they need to keep in mind that PageRanking alone is not enough.

To Check PageRank is essentially, only a score that represents the value of a page, as Google determines it. Getting a link to your pages from a high PR page will add some value to your page. But that does not take into account the context of the link -- the words in the link -- the anchor text. Your SEO plan should contain more than just PageRanking in order for you to have long term success on the internet.
